An extraordinary talent and considered one of Australia’s most accomplished pianists. 

Described as a ‘soloist of superb virtuosic skill and musicality’ he is active internationally and throughout Australia as a recitalist, concerto soloist, chamber musician, writer, producer and educator.

He collaborates with a diverse and extensive range of musicians and artists.

He is an alumni and fellow of the Australian National Academy of Music, holds a Licentiate Diploma from the Australian Music Examinations Board and a Licentiate Diploma with Distinction from Trinity College London.

In addition, he is a skilled Artistic Director of one of Queensland’s major music festivals and has been praised for diverse programming and embracing diverse approaches resulting in a cross-cultivation of offerings from the old and familiar to the exploratory and new.

International performances include tours throughout America, Southeast Asia, United Kingdom, Ireland, New Zealand, Germany and Austria.

Within Australia he has appeared as a feature artist in many major festivals and venues. As a concerto soloist he has appeared with the Queensland, Tasmanian, Darwin and West Australian Symphony Orchestras, Ensemble Q, Southern Cross Soloists, Orchestra Victoria, Four Winds Festival Orchestra, Bangalow Festival Orchestra, Queensland Youth Symphony and the Queensland Pops Orchestra. He has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3, Radio NZ, California Capital Public Radio, ABC Classic FM and all of the Australian MBS Networks.

Major awards include the Kerikeri International Piano Competition and Australian National Piano Award. He was the recipient of the Queensland Luminary Award in the 2021 APRA/AMCOS Art Music Awards and received a Kranichsteiner Musikpries at the International Summer Courses for New Music (Darmstadt, Germany). He has been a prizewinner and/or finalist in the Sydney International Piano Competition, Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition, Mietta Song Competition, ANAM Concerto Competition (winner), ABC Symphony Australia Young Performer Awards and the Freedman Classical Music Fellowship.

He has curated or partaken in many innovative cross-genre and multi-artform projects traversing the realms of theatre, film, contemporary dance, ballet, visual art, contemporary performance art + fashion. This includes collaborations with Australasian Dance Collective, Kaldor Public Arts Projects, Queensland Theatre, Makeshift Dance Collective, Victorian Theatre Company, Paul Kildea + Peter Bassett (writers), Helen Morse, Damien Beaumont, Jason Klarwein, Matthew Connell, Helen Howard + Michael Futcher (actors), Jak Scanlon (filmmaker), Joel Dunkley (designer) + Eljo Agenbach (visual artist). As a repetiteur, he has worked on productions of Puccini’s Tosca + John Adams’ A Flowering Tree (Opera Queensland) and Puccini’s Il Trittico (Cuskelly Summer School).

He has enjoyed collaborative partnerships with many Australian and international composers, culminating in the commissioning and premiere of many new works – over 60 commissions, 109 world premieres and 147 Australian premieres to date. Many of these Australian premieres have been of works by the major compositional figures of 20th + 21st Century composition including Olivier Messiaen, Helmut Lachenmann, Morton Feldman/Samuel Beckett, Steve Reich, John Cage, John Luther-Adams, Beat Furrer, Gyorgy Kurtag, Rebecca Saunders, Ashley Fure, Hans Werner Henze, Tristan Murail, Phillipe Hurel + Georges Aperghis. He has worked with and/or commissioned works from most of Australia’s leading composers including Brett Dean, Liza Lim, Chris Dench, Elliott Gyger, Kate More, Lachlan Skipworth, Gerard Brophy, Paul Dean and many others.

He also finds time to be a radio presenter and holds associate artist positions at the Conservatorium and two universities.

As a writer, his work has been disseminated by various publications and forums including The Music Trust’s Loudmouth, Limelight, Australian Music Centre’s Resonate, Australasian Piano Pedagogy Conference + extensive program notes for Brisbane Music Festival, Southern Cross Soloists + Opera Queensland.

He is a passionate exponent and commissioner of contemporary music, having given 109 World Premieres + 147 Australian Premieres to date. Discography includes How Strange the Change + I’ll Walk Beside You (ABC Classics), Liquid Crystal (MOVE Records), TransfigurationInventions + braneworlds (self-produced).

His mentors have included Leah Horwitz OAM, Timothy Young, Stephen Emmerson, Huguette Brassine and Genevieve Lacey. After completing undergraduate studies with Class I Honours and a University Medal, he is currently a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate at the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University.

Engaged as Guest Principal Flute with the Opera Australia Orchestra, he has performed in productions of La BohèmeTurandotThe Marriage of Figaro, La Juive, Otello, La Traviata, Il Trovatore and Attila at the Sydney Opera House. 

He will perform in the same role for the Australian Ballet’s Sydney season of Anna Karenina, Instruments of Dance and Romeo and Juliet. In May, he returns as Guest Principal Flute with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra in Finland for their Spring Season, including performances at the Naantali Music Festival. 

Whilst in Finland, he will give a short solo recital at the Betel Kirkko, Turku. He will also perform in May as a guest with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Jukka-Pekka Saraste.

2022 highlights include performances as guest principal flute with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, as solo flutist with the Southern Cross Soloists in their QPAC Concert Series, collaborating with pianist in residence Konstantin Shamray, and his debut performance at the 19th Annual Bangalow Music Festival and the inaugural MESH festival in Sydney. 

He will appear with in a trio with viola and harp at the Melbourne Recital Centre’s Primrose Potter Salon, performing an all-Australian trio recital – a newly commissioned work composed especially for the ensemble by pre-eminent Australian composer Ross Edwards. The trio have recently secured a forthcoming commission by Australian composer and emeritus professor of music at the University of Sydney, Anne Boyd AM.

He has trained with Europe’s leading flute professors and has carved out a multifaceted performance career spanning from Australia to the Nordic countries.

He was appointed Principal Flute of the Estonian National Opera Orchestra whilst still a student at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg. During his seven year tenure, he performed over forty opera and ballet productions and appeared as concerto soloist with the orchestra. Whilst in Estonia he performed regularly as a guest principal flute with the Turku Philharmonic and Tampere Philharmonic Orchestras (Finland), and most recently as guest principal flute with the Opera Australia Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House. 

He has performed with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Nordic Symphony Orchestra and MDR Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra under the direction of conductors such as Sir Mark Elder, Neeme Järvi, Paavo Järvi, Richard Tognetti, Klaus Mäkelä and Leif Segerstam. Orchestral engagements and recitals have seen him perform in concert halls in Australia, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Belarus, Poland, Germany, Austria, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal and England, performing at the Lucerne Festival, Tallinn Chamber Music Festival (Estonia), Festival Archipel Switzerland, Audi Sommerkonzerte and BBC Proms.

He has been flute soloist with one of Australia’s most celebrated chamber ensembles, the Southern Cross Soloists, appearing regularly with the group as Associate Artist in their 2019 QPAC Subscription Series. He has enjoyed close collaborations in Australia with Slava Grigoryan (guitar), Miroslav Petkov (trumpet), Alex Raineri (piano) and Emily Granger (harp), and abroad with Carlos Sanchis Aguirre (piano) and Domenica Musumeci (harp).

As concerto soloist, he gave the world premiere of a new flute concerto composed for him by Australian composer Lisa Cheney, commissioned by the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra. In a live broadcast on the Estonian Public Radio (ERR) ‘Klassikaraadio’.

He performed as soloist in the world premiere of Lepo Sumera’s ‘To The Harmony’ with the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra. He has performed as guest artist at Phoenix Central Park, Brisbane Music Festival, BLEACH* Festival, Orange Chamber Music Festival, Craven Creek Music Festival and Arts in the Valley. He has appeared as guest flutist with the Australian Piano Quartet, Ensemble Q, Limpinwood Ensemble and as a performer for the 1:1 CONCERTS Australia social initiative. Passionate about performing and commissioning Australian compositions, he has given world premiere performances including works by Gerard Brophy, Lisa Cheney and Tristan Coelho. 

He is a recipient of numerous awards and scholarships, including the Australia Council for the Arts, Ian Potter Cultural Trust, DAAD, Foundation for Young Australians and Archimedes Foundation.

A published author in the artistic research field, he holds a PhD in Music from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (2015-2019); his research investigating the relationship between rhythmic cohesion and artistic interpretation in small chamber ensemble playing. He has been engaged as an external tutor for the Australian National Academy of Music and Musica Viva, and has been a guest lecturer for the Latvian Academy of Music, University of Queensland School of Music, Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, Newcastle Conservatorium of Music and the Australian Institute of Music. From 2019–2021 he directed the Southern Cross Soloists’ Next Gen Young Artists Program.

He completed his early musical training in Australia at the Queensland Conservatorium (2005-2008), followed by further performance studies in Germany at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg (2010-2012) and in Switzerland at the Haute École de Musique Genève (2015-2019). He is an alumnus of the Lucerne Festival Academy, Australian Youth Orchestra, AISOI (Australia), and the Sydney Symphony Sinfonia. His principal teachers were Gerhard Mallon, Sally Walker, Felix Renggli and Jacques Zoon.has



A highly accomplished player with a Master of Music degree from The Juilliard School in New York where she studied with violin Professor Naoko Tanaka. 

During her time at Juilliard she was awarded the M. & E. Cohen Scholarship and the Charles H. Bechter Scholarship and was a finalist in the 2020 violin concerto competition.

She received her Bachelor of Music degree with first-class honours from the Royal Academy of Music in London where she studied with professor Maureen Smith.

In 2017 she performed as a soloist for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and other distinguished guests at Westminster Abbey for the Royal Commonwealth Service. This was broadcast live on BBC television.

In 2018 she again performed for the HM the Queen at Buckingham Palace for the Opening Ceremony of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. During her time in London, she has performed as a soloist at prestigious venues including the Wigmore Hall, St James’ Piccadilly, the Regent Hall and Colston Hall.

She has performed Margaret Sutherland’s Violin Concerto with the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra and Brisbane’s Corda Spiritus, has given the Australian premiere of David Lang’s Mystery Sonatas in Brisbane as well as two solo recitals in the Queensland Performing Arts Centre Concert Hall.

She is a Tait Memorial Trust and ABRSM scholar, and was awarded the Dame Joan Sutherland Award from the American Australian Association and the Guy Parsons Award from the Portland House and Australian Music Foundations. 

Awarded a full tuition scholarship to undertake her Doctor of Philosophy in contemporary violin music at the University of Queensland, she is a member of the violin teaching faculty at two universities.

She has performed at many international festivals including Tallinn Music Week, the Melbourne Festival, the Aldeburgh Festival, Prussia Cove and the Juilliard Chamber Music Festival. 

She has performed in masterclasses for esteemed artists including Julian Rachlin, Tasmin Little, Daniel Hope, the St Lawrence String Quartet, and the Borodin Quartet, from whom her own quartet received a letter of recommendation for the MICMC.

She studied at the Australian National Academy of Music from 2012-2014 with William Hennessy. During her time at the academy she played alongside many visiting artists including the Brodsky Quartet, Brett Dean, Michael Collins, The Australian Chamber Orchestra, The Aurora Orchestra, Anthony Marwood, Dale Barltrop and was concertmaster of the ANAM orchestra under the direction of Simone Young, James Judd and Nicholas Carter.

She also studied under the direction of Associate Professor Patricia Pollett at the University of Queensland. During this time she was concertmaster of the University of Queensland Chamber and Symphony Orchestras and was finalist in the university’s Bach Prize and The Howard and Gladys Sleath Prize for Strings.

She was the recipient of the Sleath String Scholarship for outstanding students and was a winner of the Sid Paige & Musica Viva/4MBS Chamber Music Prize.

First studying music at the Maclean Music Academy under the tutorage of Sr Anne Gallagher OAM from the age of 4, he then graduated with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) majoring in classical voice performance, under the tutorage of Shaun Brown.

During his career in music performance he has performed in numerous musicals and concerts along with the UQ Singers and UQ Chorale.
